Sir Viv Richards urges WICB to reincorporate Chris Gayle – Cricket News Update
By continuously denying the legendary Caribbean batsman a spot in his national team and demanding him to apologise for a petty issue, West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is making the player a villain, claims the former skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Isaac-Vivian-Alexander-Richards-c64548.
Richards is probably the first person from the Caribbean cricketing ranks to speak in favour of Gayle who has not played a single international game since the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011.
The captain turned coach is critical of the way the board is handling the dispute, which he thinks is being aggravated for nothing. However, he has clarified that he is not giving any under support to Gayle but merely goading both the parties to bury the
hatchet.
Talking to the media today, Sir said, “I would like to believe that at present, the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/CH-Gayle-c1221 out to be this villain ... about apologising and what he has to do and the criteria that is required for him to
be part of the unit again. I just think it’s a little farfetched in my opinion.”
Richards, who played 121 Tests and 187 ODIs in his career, has regarded the WICB as a ‘dictatorial’ body which always tries to exert untoward authority and pressure upon the players. He argues that Gayle has taken a daring step to take the board to task.
The former all-rounder told, “At some point, somebody has got to take these guys on. They have been totally dictatorial in my opinion; having people in their corner who are just corn-fed, the best so-called fed chickens that you can find.”
Gayle and WICB have been at odds since April 2011 when the former made some ‘derogatory’ comments against the latter during his interview to a Jamaican radio. The enigmatic batter lampooned the board administration for not showing serious interest in the
progress of the game.
Moreover, the maverick opener went to play the Indian Premier League (IPL) without prior permission by the board.
Now, his national cricket bosses are pressing him to submit a written apology before he is recalled to the team, but the ex-skipper is not ready to do so, considering it to be a matter of insult for him.
