Hi Guys..Who uses these satelite radios? Are they any good?

Which one is better..sirius or XM?

HOW does the pay structure work..do you have to buy a receiver and then a monthly plan like a cell phone or something? Is there a contract, or is it month to month?

  1. Both are good, but I think XM is a little better. It depends on what you want though. If you want just music, I think XM is the better service because it has a broader selection. If you like dance music (trance, house) then Sirius is better. Sirius has alot of niche channels, so if your not an Elvis, Springsteen, Jummy Buffett, or Grateful Dead, that's four channels you won't be listening to right there. XM has several formats that Sirius doesn't though, including a channel that is all film scores, a showtoon channel, and a 40's channel.

Sirius also has more sports including the NFL and NBA, but alot of their sports are fluff sports, like Arena Football. XM has the NHL, baseball, and alot more college football and basketball than Sirius.

If you like talk, I'd say XM is much better overall. Sirius does have Howard, but once you've heard all Howard has to offer for the day, the resy of Sirius's talk is pretty bad, except for the Jay Thomas Show. Cosmo, Maxim, and Playboy radio are all unlistenable. XM has alot more talk and carries alot of shows that are on terrestrial that can't be heard in your market like Opie & Anthony, Lex & Terry, and many others.

Both are equal in terms of news. Both carry CNN, Headline News, Fox News, and BBC World Service. Sirius has NPR, while XM has its own public radio channel which I think is better than NPR. Sirius does have the World Radio Network, which carries newscasts from countries around the world. I listen to that alot.

Both can be heard online. XM has all its music channels on its online service and includes the Opie & Anthony and Oprah channels. Sirius carries almost its entire channel load on its online service, so Sirius is better as far as online content goes. XMs online has much better audio quality, unless you pay extra for the Sirius premium service.

Both charge $13 a month, and you have to buy a receiver. The receivers are very good quality, and come You can get them relatively cheap, like an XM Roady can be gotten for under $20. There is no contract, and you pay three months at a time, unless you want to pay each month individually.

Either way, you really can't go wrong, both are light years better than terrestrial.

  2. i have sirius and love it. you need to buy a receiver and then subscribe to their service they usualy offer 1 month, 3 month, 6 month and 1 year. with the pending merger i wouldent go investing a lot of money on equipment or a long term contract, they havent really announced how they are going to handle the equipment after the meger.

As for content music wise they both bassicly cover the same material so you need to look into what specialty stations each offers and see what appeals more to you.

  3. I have XM, all my friends have Sirius.  I wish I had Sirius.  Better music, and they have NFL.  Unless you like MLB and Nascar, get Sirius.

You pay 13 bucks a month for each, there's no contract (I think), but they bill you 6 months at a time (XM does, I don't know about sirius).

  4. We have both.  I like Sirius because they have NASCAR (it use to be XM), but we have XM for baseball.  They are trying to buy each so they eventually will merge and hopefully make "it" better for everyone.  My boyfriend likes Sirius better because it has the playboy channel.

  5. I have sirius and I love it.  It works really well.  U have the stiletto 2, which can be used inside off of wifi, outside with line of site to the satellite, also inside with home kit, and in car with car kit.  It is awesome, excellent music selection.

Howard Stern and much more.  Plus if I hear a song on the radio, I can press the "Love" button and it records it into flash memory so I can listen to it whenever I want.

Its sweet, and unedited.  Free radio sucks horribly compared to satellite, definitely worth the money.

  6. I have Sirius but previously had XM.  Sirius is far better.  However they should merge soon.  I love it and could never give it up.  It is impossible to listen to regular radio after you get used to satellite.

  7. I have XM and love it. It will soon not matter which one you have because of the merger. You must buy the reciever and its month to month no contract. You must also pay an activation fee. You don't have to pay 6 months at a time that is completly false.
