  1. The name is pretty rare, but there are a bunch here in Minnesota.  The first immigrants were from Holland where it appears they settled in Michigan  (maybe to plant some of the beautiful tulips).

However,  I could not find a meaning of the surname Luikens.

  2. Luikens is indeed a dutch name.  I have a Luikens line from Muskegon, Michigan that goes back to  Klaas Luikens and  Geelje Medendorp.  They were married in Kloosterburen, which is in the Groningen Province of the Netherlands on May 9, 1874.   Are there any Michigan connections with your Luikens family?

Edit: Duimstra and Schutt are also Dutch names.

  3. Dutch or Flemish (Belgian) I would guess.

  4. I wondered if you are interested in the meaning of the Luikens name !

Dutch Luikens, Luken, Lueken, or German Lückens, a patronymic from the personal name Lüdeke : from a pet form of the personal name Ludo, Lode, or a pet form of a Germanic name formed with the initial element liut or hlod (e.g. Ludolph).
