I live far away from my sister. I heard today that she is in labour. Can any of you share positive stories with me on baby being born premature. This baby means everything to my sister especially as she was told she would never have children.

  1. Both of my cousins were born premature one 2 months premature the other three.  They are adults now..30 and 24, and healthy etc.  that was the eighties so I'd say even better nowadays!

    Congrats to your sister!

  2. My first son was 5 weeks early was 5lb 6oz he was ok just need to go to baby care for a few hours due t not being able to keep warm but came out of there after a few hours he's now 16years old and a pain in the bum lol but never had any problems or health problems .She's in good hands.

  3. I was personally born 4 weeks early & my sister was born 6 weeks early & we were both healthy - I was 7lbs 13 and my sister was 6lbs 7

Congrats on auntification & for your concern for your sister xx

  4. i was 4 weeks early and my baby was fine. she was 6lbs9oz.

My mum had my sister at 20 something weeks and she weighed 2lbs. She's still bossing me around today and shes 30!

  5. I had preterm labor with both my children.

I remember when it started with my second the doctor told me if I was 32 weeks along they wouldn't stop labor. That he'll be fine and healthy. He was barely 36 weeks and weighted a whopping 8 lbs 15 oz. Big and healthy.

    Hope this helps.

  6. Hi I had my son at 34 weeks ( 6 weeks prem ) he had to stay in special care baby unit for 14 days, but could breath on his own fine, just had a little jaundice, so had to go under the photo lights, and couldnt quite master the sucking on a bottle/breast thing...took a week or so to get the reflex. he is now a happy little boy and to look at him you would never know he was prem....hope all works out for your sister and her baby x

  7. That would make ur sister 34 weeks pregnant,i gave birth to my daughter at 34 weeks yes she was tiny 4lb 8ozs compaired to my son who was born at 36weeks and weighed 7lb 13ozs.This baby has every chance of survival my daughter had to spent 2 weeks in intensive care and was allowed to come home she is now a healthy 5yr old.

  8. Babies can survive without long-term problems from as early as 24 weeks - I'm certain your sister's baby will be fine. They will probably have to stay in hopital for about a week or so, and baby will likely be in an incubator for a few days, but modern medicine is amazing and the hospital will do everything they can.

I can't guarantee that baby will be ok, but I couldn't make that guarantee even if she were full term. But I can say that 34 weeks isn't that early.

  9. oh hun. My daughter was born at 28 weeks, has no lasting problems and i found the one thing that helped her adjust to being on the outside was putting one of my used breast pads in her incubator, being there as often as i could, Kangaroo care (google it, it really works) and singing to her, She was out by the time she would have been born and had doubled  her birth weight (she was 3lbs) good luck hun,

  10. a year ago today, my friends auntie, who was told it would be unlikely to have a baby, went into labour. with TWINS!

they wee born 2 and a half months early, and they're still alive today. Her aunt was upset because she was shopping for beds, then suddenly she was in labour!

good luck with your sisters baby, and sister. Hope all is well.

  11. Maybe she in "New Labour"

    They never get things right

  12. I'm sure everything will be fine. 6 weeks isn't that premature.

  13. she should be fine and so will the baby lots of women have there babys early shes in the best place and thats the hospital

  14. I had my baby girl at 34 weeks and know EXACTLY how your sister feels.  My doctor waited to induce me (my water broke, but he didn't want to go into full-out labor too soon) because he wanted the baby's respiratory system to mature as long as it could.  I ended up having her at 34 weeks anyway and we stayed in the hospital for 6 days.  It was a little bit scary because she was SO little (4 lbs 9 ozs), but she never had to go to NICU.  She could breathe on her own and just needed a little help eating...tell your sister to hang in there.  More than likely, her baby will be just fine.  She may have to take a few extra precautions and be in there a little longer than she wanted to be, but everything will more than likely work out perfectly.  Good luck to her and you're an awesome sister to care so much.  I wish I had family like that!  Congrats to everyone :)

  15. I had my son 4 weeks early and he was born healthy! He was 7 pounds 2 ounces and now 7 years later is super healthy and happy. My friend also just had her son 6 weeks early, he was over 6 pounds and even though he had trouble breathing at first he is now doing great and only had to be in the hospital for 2 weeks :)

Good luck to your sister and baby!
