I have two brothers and one sister. My brothers and I get along great, especially my younger bro, we are very close. My sister and I couldn't get along if our lives depended on it. We are both STHMs, our husbands own their own businesses in similar fields, and we both have three kids, our youngest children are only 4 months apart in age. Seems like we should get along great. But everything with her becomes a competition, its so bad that I can't stand to talk to her anymore and haven't in 6 months. So what is your experiences with your siblings?

  1. I have only personal anecdote to do on here, but in all of my experience, brothers seem to have a much stronger bond than sisters.  While all siblings tend to go through rivalries and competitions in their youths, it seems like in their adulthood, brothers tend to forgo those old rivalries and develop bonds of loyalty unlike those with any other friends or family members, while I haven't seen this occur in sisters.

My father is the oldest of a family of nine siblings, and in his family, the brothers are very close and always watch out for one another, while several of the sisters aren't speaking to one another, and they've each offended each of the others in a major way at some point in their lives.

Also, I have a single sibling, who is my brother, and despite some strong differences, I still consider him the individual I respect most, and we have a bond that can never be broken.

By contrast, my girlfriend also has a single sibling, who is a sister, and they both harbor the same sorts of sibling rivalries that they did as children.  They don't hate each other, but they don't have the loyalty that exists between my brother and myself, either.

  2. All I have is brothers. No girls in my family at all. (No female cousins, aunts, grandmothers or mom) I get along with my brothers very well. I can talk to them about anything.

But like any sibling there is always rivalry. I always competed with my brothers about everything. It was more like a friendly competition though. I did beat them in school though I did better then all of them.

  3. i get along with both pretty good

  4. I only have one older sister and we've always gotten along well.

  5. I wonder how my sister would respond, since she is the only girl with six brothers.

  6. My sister and I have the typical fights and competitions with one another. At the end of the day though, she's still my sister...even if she is mentally deluded lol.

Maybe you should try talking to your sister and working out your differences. She probably feels the same way that you do. You don't want to think at the end of the day what might have been if you would have done things differently.

    Good luck :)

  7. I'm an only child and wish I had someone to fight with sometimes.

  8. My little brother and I fight regularly over stupid stuff, but overall, we have a pretty good relationship. I'm probably the only person on Earth who understands most of what he talks about.

In my uncle's family, there are four girls, ranging in age from 14 to 2. We don't see much of them because they live in another city, but when we do, they all appear to get along well.

  9. I can't stand my sister. We've tried and failed at a relationship.

    *shrugs*

  10. Brothers do, Sisters have to split resources, and they are not as fanciful in sharing. Brothers learn to protect each other, and interact collectively. Sisters tend to despise each other, and they take each's things in a conflictive manner. I have just see more sisters hate each other than brothers.

  11. I thought sisters did?  My brother and I were very close growing up.  We were on the same track team one season in High School.  We even sometimes worked together as teenagers. Yet we competed a lot which got more intense as young adult.

Then my exwife hated his wife and vice versa.  More intrigue and plots... We started becoming friends again when we both worked in NYC in 1998.

We still continued to compete against each other.  Then in 2002,my brother was going thru a divorce & we became best friends again.  Sadly he died a short time later.

  12. well, maybe you should eat out with the whole family and with hers,

a little get together, really helps, especially if you're both eating together,

    eating always makes it better

  13. I get along better with my sisters...I hardly speak to my brother.

Its not that I dont love him...but things between us is kind of ackward.

  14. I have a great relationship with my sister. She's three years younger than me and we connect with each other like best mates. We often do have those typical little tiffs, but I suppose those are quite 'normal'.

My brother and I also had a great relationship with each other. Despite our large age difference, we were very close. He was so easygoing, sympathetic, and adventurous. Unfortunately our relationship won't be able to grow even more.

Keep in mind that there are many people out there that would love to have a sibling. Don't take it for granted. Try to make peace with her. :)

  15. I have both one brother and one sister,my brother and I talk about stuff that we like such as super heros, soccer and video games As much as i love my sister, she tends to have an attitude towards the whole family

so I say I get along with my brother better.
