The deference of the media towards people with a lot of money, especially individuals in the category of old money is a case where social stratification affects the behaviour of a society.  The use of terms such as Upper class, upper middle class, middle class and so on, along with expressions like "nouveau riche" and "old money" indicate a consciousness.
