Site that allows you to make a customized face/body?

Question

I'm writing a book and I would like to see the characters as a visual aid. I am terrible at drawing so I need to rely on technology. Is there a site where I can make a face or a full body? I know there are avatars on yahoo here, but they are a bit limited. All the characters are asian so the avatars here aren't really going to work. Here's what will work (i'm flexible):

I really like IMVU its a really cool site that you can customize everything pretty much, its fantasy and whatever you like pretty much.  Its also free.  Check it out.
