Question:

Sitting, knee pain, bad habit?

I am 35 years old. I have Ehler's Danlos Disease (probable type 3- hypermobility). All of my life, I have tended to sit with one leg under me and the other under my chin or both legs under me (usually, one heel under my butt and the other heel against the thigh of my tucked one or out to the other side).

This is a life-long habit.

I often sit for hours like that- reading, watching TV, typing on the computer.

But I'm not as young as I used to be and my knees often overwhelm me with pain.

I'm not comfortable sitting any other way.... but I'm not long-comfortable sitting like this.

Anyone else have this problem?

How did you break the habit or overcome the pain?

Any other recommendations?

  1. This was my 1st intro to this disorder, so I looked up:

Disease Information from NORD, National Organization for Rare Disorders, Inc.

...the reading of which reminded me of this:

    Silica

I am now wondering whether EDS is directly or indirectly related to  a lack of silica/silicon in one's body---Perhaps due to an inability (or lack thereof) of the body to absorb it.

Products that are high in silica are:

    *food grade* Diatomaceous earth;

    Bambo herb

(reportedly has far more silica than horsetail)

    Horsetail herb

(too much can be toxic--it contains nicotine)

Thoroughly research anything before trying it.

We supplement with the Diatomaceous earth (food grade), for various reasons.  We've seen:

a decades long bald spot regrow hair,

    fingernails strengthen noticeably,

    eczema sores heal, &

arthritic knees in danger of being surgically replaced , no longer cause limping or elicit complaints.

(I've had my share of pain, & I know it isn't possible to study or concentrate with it!)
