Question:

Sitting A-Level Law as a private citizen?

My dad has taken it upon himself to try and get an A-level in Law, except he (and I) have no idea how to do it.

He's managed to get study books from the library and has an intense interest in the subject, but we have no idea where to go from there.

I've researched some on the internet, but cannot determine if there are any centres where my Dad could turn up after having paid the fee, sit the exam and come away a few months after with a A-Level.

Sorry for having to ask here, but I thought this group would be more than likely to know.

  1. Yes, you can sit A-levels as a private candidate. Check out this page:

    http://www.edexcel.org.uk/studying/priva...

  2. You will probably need to telephone the schools in your area to see if they take private candidates.  They will probably only take you if they themselves offer law at A' level and you will need to establish which examination board they use for law.  You could also look at the websites of the various schools as most do list the subjects they offer.

AQA do have a list of centres that take private candidates for this academic year.  It may of course change, but it will give you some idea of centres in your area.  Go to:

    http://www.aqa.org.uk/admin/p_private.ph...

and there is a link to a pdf file half way down the page.

Then you need to examine the specifications for A' level law for  the relevant board.   I would suggest that you have a look on Amazon to see which text books are available - I think that there are more for AQA board than any other.

    For the specifications go to:

AQA (they are introducing a new spec, but you can access the current one) http://www.aqa.org.uk/qual/gce/law_new.p...

    OCR http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/asa...

    WJEC

They are a Welsh board but you can sit their exams in England

Edexcel do not offer law as a subject

    Best of luck!
