HI, im currently studying for A level Biology through home learning. Im finding it hard to find anywhere to accept me as an external candidate to sit the exams. Was wondering if anyone had any tips? Ive got a list of centres in my area and further away who i have contacted but they dont really seem interested. Seems a waste as ive paid £250 for the course and cant even sit the exams?

  1. I sat A Level Law as en external student. I had actually studied with the college previously, but had left for some time before returning to sit the exam. I know it can be done. Is there a local college in your area that all the A Level local students go to? Maybe widen your search by including schools with 6th forms who have A Level students. If so, chances are they will offer the A Level Biology course you have studied, or at least a similar one so you should be able to sit it alongside those students. I would contact the local colleges/schools you think offer these sort of courses, and ask whether they offer the possibility of external candidates sitting an exam in their facility. I would include that you are willing to pay the relevant fees to cover you taking the exam there.

I hope this helps. Good luck!

  3. Contact the exma board and ask for their advice.  Also ask them if it is possible for them to allocate you to a centre.
