Need help with this. I can do it on almst every horse at my stable, but the one I'm riding in a show this weekend is really bouncy and tries to canter when I want to sit her trot. I really need advice with keeping her slow, and staying in the saddle when she trots. I just find my butt bouncing out of the saddle every beat.

  1. when I first did my canter, I did a sitting trott. Like the girl number three said, which is a really good answer, just really go with the horse. This is the time when you really need to press all you weight into your heals and really squeeze in your thighs. It will prepare you for when you do a canter/lope or gallop. Also, try to keep you heals under your shoulders. What I mean is to bend your knees. It also helps to sit back in your saddle. If you still struggle, as your instructor, or slow the horse a little to a slower pace. I hope it worked for you, it worked for me!!!

Good luck in your horse show!

  2. I would tell you to squeeze but then that would make your horse go faster... you should probably just tighten the reign a little bit and tense your muscles to keep yourself in the saddle.

Good luck in the show!! I'm sure you'll do great!! Please tell me how it went at Megs2129@yahoo.com

  3. please don't squeeze. You are probably not relaxed enough in you lower back, upper thigh and hip joint. On one of the horses that doesn't have a big trot get someone to lunge you and try practising without reins or stirrups. (or go in a safe arena and let him plod along with just the reins knotted in front of you). Get the feel of your seat alternatively moving forward with the hindquarters and opening up of you hips allowing the horse to come up underneath you. The small of your back must remain soft, supple and move backwards and forwards with the movement. Just as you hands do with the reins at walk. Best of luck with this.

  4. tis happened to me but then when i slowed my horse i wasnt bouncing as much

what also helps is if you take your feet out of the stirrups

or try bare back riding it strenghthens your legs so you wont bounce as much

  5. sit way way deep in the saddle...... hit on your butt and not your crouch bone (not saying that you do this but a lot of people do) and just go with the horse. Try not to do what the answerer above me and hang on really tight with your thighs...... if your in western pleasure (which I think that you are since your trying to get a nice slow sitted trot) your not going to look very relaxed if your stitting there and hanging on for dear life with your thighs....

just sit deep in the saddle and just move with the horse.

  6. Taking your feet out of the stirrups to strengthen and simply squeeze your thighs tighter..You'll soon stop bouncing..Good Luck with it.
