Sittingbourne's Super Standards, Stayers final recap
Sittingbourne hosted two Super Standard races and the Central Wholesale Produce LTD Stayers Final Thursday night.
Strugglin Again wasn’t struggling last night as the 5-2 joint favourite beat the other joint favourite, Swift James, by a whopping 7½ lengths in the Super Standard Division Two race. Strugglin stayed wide from the sixth trap, and took the lead from Filey Assasin at the halfway point of the race. From there it wasn’t close as he cruised to the finish line almost covering the 500m in less than 30 seconds, his final time was 30.76.
James was left behind to deal with the rest of the field, who were neck and neck with the joint favourite. Perfect View finished in third with the same time as James at 31.36, but was just behind as they crossed the finish line. Making the second and third place results even more exciting was Assasin, who after giving up the lead, did his best to stay close, finishing in fourth just a shoulder behind View with a time of 31.37.
A half length back of Assasin in in fifth was Pretty Maldini, and behind him was h**l For Leather in last.
The Super Standard Division One race wasn’t as favourable for 2-1 race favourite, Hollyoak Pops, who lost battles for ground throughout the race, and finally finished in fourth with a time of 30.76.
It was Mountjoy Opal with the early lead after a quick start, but Opal could only hold the lead until the halfway point when Talking Point took over. Point finished in first with a time of 30.36, 3 lengths ahead of Opal who had a time of 30.60.
Lady Sonador, a 12-1 longshot, took third place with a time of 30.62, a neck behind Opal. Masterclass took fifth and Perfect Review was far from perfect finishing in last place.
The £500 Central Wholesale Produce Stayers Final was the race of the night, and 6-4 race favourite, Mistley Colonel didn’t dissapoint, taking the lead after the third bend and winning the long distance race with a time of 40.56. In second, 1 ¾ lengths behind, with a time of 40.70, was Droopys Had.
Brimardon Janet lost ground after the sixth bend, but finished strong enough to take third place with a time of 40.88. In fourth was Trosely Angel nudging out early race leader Perfect Sunset by a ½ length, and in last was Flamingo Romeo.
