I am looking for a new MMA camp. I am only 15 years old, but have been competing in MMA for about 3 years now. I am looking to join either Sityodtong or Wai Kru; I am just having trouble deciding which is going to be best for me. I know that Wai Kru has a better facility, but I know Sityodtong puts out great fighters and legendary instruction. I just wonder what's the best move for me right now, whether to get a base at Wai Kru and then polish at Sityodtong, or vice versa. Help please.

  1. Try out classes at both places, then decide. Nothing you will hear about either gym or can infer from their reputation is a substitute for first-hand experience training at either. Just don't expect to be moving back and forth between the two -- not only 'cause that'd be incredibly expensive -- but because there's some rivalry between the gyms.

  2. i would pick sityodtong since it is really good muay thai.  or just do both like you planned.

  3. Sityodtong - no question.  You say you think Wai Kru might be better for your basic game - you've been working on the basics already.

You need to step up your game and be around strong fighters to make yourself stronger.  Sityodtong has much better fighters in the gym.  Plus, Mark DelaGrotte is one of the best trainers in the US.  If you really want to fight you'll have to wait 3 years (till you're 18)  You may as well be working with the best in the business - in the mean time be the best amateur that you can and study with the team at Sityodtong.
