Six French contenders in the Evian Masters 2012 roster
The Evian Masters 2012 is set to start this Thursday, at Evian-les-Bains, France, with six French contenders in the roster.
The Evian Masters is one of the prestigious golf tournaments co-sanctioned by both the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association) and the LET (Ladies European Tour), which means top-ranked players from the
two Tours grace the field every season.
Although the field for the 2012 Evian Masters is going to feature big names like current world number one Yani Tseng, defending champion Ai Miyazato and world number two Na Yeon Choi of South Korean, French
players are expected to grab much of the spectators’ attention as the event is being played in France.
The most prominent French player in the field is Karine Icher, who has vowed to cheer the local crowd by displaying a good performance.  Other national players include Caroline Afonso, Anne-Lise Caudal, Sophie
Giquel-Bettan, Gwladys Nocera and Jade Schaeffer.
Analysts said that the number of French players in the Evian Masters 2012 is not something to be amazed at, as there are thirty South Korean contenders in the roster.
Analysts also pointed out that much of the media coverage is being given to South Korean stars, which has overshadowed players from other countries. They said that although it makes sense to pin hopes on South
Korean players as they are going places on the LPGA Tour these days, there are plenty of non-Asian players who deserve attention.
Karine Icher, who is struggling to prove her mettle on the LPGA Tour because she has not been able to win any event so far, will gain attention when she comes face-to-face with her rivals.
Despite a below-average performance on the LPGA, Icher appears to have made a name for herself on the LET. With six LET titles on her profile, the French star is now ready to do something amazing on the US-based
LPGA Tour, at Evian-les-Bains.
Speaking to the media about her current form, Icher said that she is happy with the way she is improving her game. “I work a lot on my putting, which is the key now to do some good scores.  My game is pretty
solid, so it's even easier to hit some birdies when you hit more greens in regulation,” she said.
