Six Major League teams pursuing Yoenis Cespedes – MLB News
Cuban national baseball team's Yoenis Cespedes is gaining popularity among Major League teams to sign a potential deal with them.
As soon as he was somewhat given Dominican Republic nationality, the MLB officially declared him a free agent to come and play in the US for the MLB. Now reports are coming in the media that almost some six league teams include the Miami Marlins, Chicago Cubs, Chicago White Sox, Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers are trying to offer him a potential contract.
Though no official statement has come out in the media but sources have confirmed that these are serious to sign him. According to MLB Network Radio host Jim Bowden, who earlier this week discussed complications regarding how many teams are pursuing Cespedes. He said, “Six clubs that have been the most serious in negotiations with Cespedes' agents.”
Earlier, Logan Morrison, the Marlins’ left fielder, had commented in the media, “You don't need to catch balls behind your back in games, and you don't need to jump 100 feet in the air and leg press 20,000 pounds, or whatever the heck he's doing.”
His agent Adam Katz however, said that both they are expecting a potential contract before next season. “We are aware of the [spring training] dates, we expect him to be in camp with one of the clubs.”
Previously, the Tigers president and general manager Dave Dombrowski has also said in the media regarding Cespedes’ situation, “I don't want to say on that, most likely [out], but you never can tell.”
Although, experts and analysts are evidently dividing their reactions on two different prospectives, but this is much is true in the fact that Cespedes still has a huge chance to step up in the Tigers roster. The Tigers are already playing with low ranked infielders and Cespedes will be bringing backup for their entire infield roster.
The next few weeks are critical when these MLB franchises make their final offers. Cespedes is a talented player as he has performed at the highest national level but Major League Baseball and especially the entire environment is very different from many other leagues in the world. This can become an issue if Cespedes is unable to adapt to the highly competitive nature of MLB.
