The six major nutrients that the body requires are carbohydrates, proteins, lipids, vitamins, minerals, and water.

What is the major functional difference between the first three and the last three nutrients (listed above) in maintaining a healthy body?

Briefly explain the major function of each of the six nutrients in your own words

  1. Carbohydrates are made from carbon, hydrogen and oxygen.The hydrogen and the oxygen are in the same ratio as water, H2O

    Fats(lipids) contain the same elements. Both fats and carbs are used for energy

    Proteins are carbon hydrogen oxygen and nitrogen. These are used for growth of new tissue

    Vitamins are large organic molecules needed in very small amounts to regulate body processes. Thye contain carbon, oxygen, hydrogen , nitrogen, as well as sulfur, and a few other elements.

    Minerals are elements that are needed for bone growth(Calcium), hemoglobin(iron), phosphorus(bones), potassium, iodine(thyroid), and a  several others

    Water is needed because all chemical reactions occur in solution. H2O
