  1. Have you signed up at theknot.com yet? If not I recommend that you do that - they will give you a checklist and tell you everything that you need to have done by now.

Here are a few things that I can think of that you should have done or start doing.

-Start shopping for bridesmaids dresses. You should make a decision soon about the dress so they can order them.

    -Book a photographer

-Do you need to hire a caterer or does your reception venue provide the food? If they don't provide food you should start looking for potential caterers.

-Start thinking about where you want to go for your honeymoon. You will want to book that soon.

-Start thinking about music for the ceremony as well as the reception. If you want a band for the reception start looking now so you can have some auditions. If you want a DJ you should start looking at potential possibilities so you can book them.

    -Book your florist

-Think about the type of cake you want - research some bakeries in your area and start getting prices.

  2. now you need to start planning out favors and bridesmaid dresses. as well as begin to think about invitations.

  3. Since it's getting close, I would check with your reception hall to see if they can provide the DJ (or band), cake, and centerpieces. My reception hall did and it really saved a LOT of  work!  Then all you need is photog/video person, invitations, favors and flowers! You can do it!

    Congratulations!

  4. if you go to theknot.com you can get a calender custom made to fit your needs. You can put in the date and it will tell you what you need to do each month up till the wedding and when you check something off it goes away so you could check off that you have your dress and stuff like that. Happy marrying! :)

  5. You should really start booking other services now.  Things like your photographer and reception entertainment, because you don't want to miss out on the one your want due to he/she already being booked.  6 months is a little rushed for a photographer (9-12 months is the suggested time) but in doing my own research, there are so many photographers out there, I'm not worried about selection.

After booking those big things start looking for bridesmaids dresses and get the final decision made soon.  It can take a few months to get them in depending on the store (plus alteration time) so you don't want to have to pay rush order fees or be stressed that they won't come in until a couple weeks before your wedding.

Start thinking about flowers and your cake.  These are things that ideally happen in the 3-6 month time frame, so you are good to just start casually looking for a florist/baker and taking your time to gather your ideas and meet with people.

Now is also a good time to think about the little "details" that you can do yourself.  Decide on and order things for making your favours and then you only have to do a few a week, instead like 100 the week before.  Also think about center pieces.  Are you just going to have your florist arrange them?  If not, you should start thinking of ideas so you can shop around to get the best prices on bowls/vases, candles, etc.

Now is also the time to be ordering your invitations.  It can take 4 weeks (or more) to have them printed, so you want to get that order process going incase it takes you a while to decide, or there is a delay. (You mail the invites 6-8 weeks before the wedding).  Also start gathering mailing addresses from friends and family so you are reading to address the invites once they come in.  Again, starting now allows you to do a few each night instead of all of them the night before mailing.

Lastly, you should register.  The word will be spreading about your upcoming wedding and as soon as the invites go out, presents will start coming in.  So you want to register to make sure you get what you need for your new house, etc.  When you register it's a good time to buy Thank You cards too, since as the gifts come in before the wedding you want to be mailing out Thank You cards within two weeks of receiving a gift.  You can order your thank you cards with your invitations (lie a matching set) but those tend to be very expensive.  I suggest looking at craft stores.  I bought packs of very lovely, blank-inside thank you notes for like $5 a pack on clearance at Micheal's Craft Store a few years ago.  I use them for everything (I'm a big fan of sending tank you notes).

Check out http://www.weddingbells.ca/ "planning tools" for a great month-by-month list of "to-dos", you just put in your date it in works out when things should get done.

    Good Luck!
