Six new fishing boats coming to Gambia says Aja Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy. The Vice President Her Excellency Aja Dr. Isatou Njie-Saidy recently presided over the commissioning of six new boats at the State House beach in Banjul. The boats dubbed Vision 2016 canoes are part of President Jammeh's drive to attain food security in the country. Three of the boats will be handed to the Gambia Armed Forces while the other three to the youth groups. Speaking at the ceremony Vice President Njie-Saidy described the gesture as timely. She said the fishing industry is dominated by foreign nationals thus causing price hike and scarcity of fish during feasts amongst others. Madam Njie-Saidy said the boats will provide employment opportunities for Gambians and enhance the livelihoods of the youths. She implored on the youth folk to venture into fishing and other life skill activities such as boat building and net making for the realization of national food security. The Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Defence Yusupha Dibba thanked the President for his gesture. Commodore Madani Senghore said the gesture compliments the President's vision of "Eat the fish you catch and catch the fish you eat''. He called on youth to venture into artisanal fishing to ensure maritime resource management. The Chief of Defence Staff Ousman Bargie said the donation will help minimize the cost of fish. He assured President Jammeh of their support in making the country self sufficient in food.
