Six players who can replace http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Essien-c25294 at Chelsea – English Premier League (Part 2)
After elaborating on how http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arturo-Vidal-c6760 can replace Michael Essien in Chelsea’s central midfield it is time to take a look at some of the other possible replacements that can come in for the injured Essien at Stamford Bridge in the
summer transfer window of 2011...
Scott Parker
There is already news that Chelsea are keen to sign Scott Parker but on a loan deal as they do not want to have him as a permanent member of their squad because there won’t be a place in their starting line up for the Englishman
once Essien returns from injury. Whilst that maybe true in some context, Parker won’t be willing to move for a loan deal.
A move to Chelsea would be a convenient one for Scott who won’t have to move cities for this deal to go through. Nonetheless, Parker was once a Chelsea player in the past where he was wasted by Jose Mourinho after Chelsea secured
him on a transfer deal from Charlton Athletic. The Englishman was made to sit on the bench and was seldom used by http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. Parker would be a good replacement for Essien though.
The English midfielder is known for his tough tackling approach and is vastly experienced in the English Premier League. Furthermore, the former Newcastle United midfielder will patrol the Chelsea back four and provide them with
cover which will be crucial in the UEFA Champions League against seasoned outfits such http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604.
Villas Boas might consider a permanent deal for Parker but the Englishman is already on the wrong side of 30 and Chelsea’s squad as a whole is aging as well so it won’t make sense for their new manager to add yet another player
who has at the most 2 or 3 good years of professional football in him. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen whether Parker would move to Chelsea, it would allow him to play in the UEFA champions League and challenge for top honours domestically as well.
Wilson Palacios
The Tottenham midfielder has certainly fell out of favour with Harry Redknapp at White Hart Lane. The Honduran defensive enforcer was central to Tottenham’s 2009-2010 season where they finished fourth and secured a place in the
UEFA Champions League as a result but in the 2010-2011 season, Palacios’ effect on the team dwindled and Redknapp was more than happy to bench the player. Palacios is a typical defensive enforcer; he likes of fly into tackles and is someone who can have a
good career at Chelsea even after Essien returns to full fitness for the Blues.
The Tottenham midfielder is now probably a third choice starter at White Hart Lane behind the likes of Sandro and Huddlestone in the midfield region. A move to Chelsea would be a wonderful one for Palacios and from Chelsea’s perspective
it will make financial sense. Palacios is not a marquee name therefore he won’t be an expensive acquisition. He is in his mid-twenties which means that he still has his best years ahead of him. Additionally, the Honduran international is experienced in the
English Premier League which means that he won’t need time to settle into the Chelsea line up.
