Six reasons why Phoenix Suns should retain Steve Nash – NBA Feature (Part 1)
The livewire in the Phoenix Suns roster, Steve Nash has been rumoured to be shifting out of the desert. However, for the time being lockout has slowed down all such activities.
Prior to the lockout there were reports that the Phoenix Suns were looking to trade Nash during the 2011 draft or in the offseason, but that never happened.
Since the LeBron James “The Decision”, team mangers are more careful than ever before and they want to get as much benefit as they can if they trade away their key or veteran player to other franchise. The Suns might be thinking
on the same lines, but the options that have surfaced so far to fill in the footsteps of Nash have not been good enough.
Nash has been with the Suns since 2004 and after his inclusion in the side he straight away led the franchise to the Western Conference Finals. For his brilliant efforts during that season, Nash was named as the Most Valuable Player.
Although the Suns didn’t make it to conference finals in his second season, but Steve was once again able to clinch the MVP award for the second time in a row.
Over the years, Nash has developed into a complete package at the point guard position and it an open secret that the Phoenix’s offense runs through him. In addition to that, the veteran himself had reiterated on several occasions
that he would prefer to stay with the Suns. However despite all of that, there have been rumours that the Suns are still looking to trade him away.
The question which arises here is where Nash would eventually end up. The team that has been most often linked with Nash has been the Miami Heat, who were brutally exposed at the point guard position by Jason Kidd and the Mavs
reserves in the NBA Finals. The Heat, need an experienced option at that point, one who can deliver once the going gets tough. And there aren’t many players in the league, who are as reliable as Nash is in the clutch.
Analysts who back this option also claim, that Nash, arguably the best point guard of his generation, will also get a deserved shot at the NBA Championship in the twilight of his career and if he succeeds, that will result in a
fairy tale ending of his illustrious career.
However, a few like me disagree with the majority and believe that the Suns should persist with Nash. In this feature, I have compiled a few reasons why Phoenix should keep Nash. Steve not just solidifies the roster, but also provides
them a lot of things that are hard to cover up by any other player.
