Six reasons why Phoenix Suns should retain Steve Nash – NBA Feature (Part 3)
Nash is a great mentor and an inspiration for entire team
Steve Nash is more than just a point guard for the Phoenix Suns. He is the face of the franchise and an on court leader. Nash assists his team-mates, if anyone is seeking help to tweak his game. Aaron Brooks is one of the fine
examples, who had learned a lot from the Canadian national.
When it comes to offense, no one can teach a player better than Nash. He has a great command over the up-tempo offense or running sets half way to the court. In addition to that, Steve possesses the ability to improvise in order
to beat the opposing defence. Although his defence is not as good as his offensive play is, but having so much command over the offensive tactics makes him a rare commodity.
The veteran also is a great source of inspiration for his colleagues. Channing Frye, Marcin Gortat and Jared Dudley are among the players, who got really inspired not just with Nash’s talent with the basketball, but also got impressed
with his work discipline and quality to lead from the front.
Besides guiding his team-mates, Nash always tries to give them a positive feedback whenever they do well and at the same time criticize the ones, who failed to perform well. This has made the environment of the locker room more
competitive and because of this atmosphere the Suns were close to secure a playoff berth in the preceding season.
It was because of this skill the Minnesota Timberwolves are eyeing on Steve in order to drag him into the team, so Nash will took European point guard Ricky Rubio under his wing and provide him necessary coaching to enhance his
play.
So trading away Nash means disturbing the entire roster, as the Suns wouldn’t just miss a talented point guard, but also a good play maker and mentor.
Aaron Brooks lacks the aptitude
Aaron Brooks is one of the talented young point guards available in the league. The young gun has shown lot of spark by tweaking his play and because of it he was able to win the ‘Most Improved Player’ Award during 2009-10 season.
However, Brooks is still not ready to take Nash’s place on the roster. The key reason behind it is that he had joined the Suns in 2011 so didn’t get much time to spend with Nash, but still Steve help him improve his play. However,
as they say the more time you invest more profit you will get in return.
So, in case the responsibility is shifted to Brooks after trading away Steve, it is not sure whether he can deliver the goods that the Suns are expecting from him.
