Step 4: Win the free-throw battle
In the current best-of-seven series, where scoring has not been a easy task for both Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls, the team that best utilizes their free-throw line will provide themselves with a far-fetched advantage. After
two equal games on the stripe, Miami realized this fact in game-3 and outscored the Bulls by eight points on the free throws. Chicago will have to do that in the games to come.
By faking shots, the Bulls can not only earn some free points but can also land the Heat defence in foul trouble. At this moment, this appears to be the only way to penetrate through an otherwise air tight defence of the Heat.
But the important thing is that once the Bulls get there, they have to make the available shots. Currently, Chicago is shooting 73 percent from the line, compared to 85 percent by the Heat. The Bulls will have to condense this
discrepancy in order to win the next game.
Step 5: Derrick Rose has to be on top of his game
The performance of the Bulls guard Derrick Rose in the previous game was not as spectacular as the first two games of the series. Ever since, Rose has become an MVP, his shooting from the field has gone down significantly. He struggles
against the Atlanta Hawks in the semi-final series and the story has not been different against the Heat.
The Heat defence has focussed exclusively on Rose in this series and the third year guard seems to be short of answers. The league MVP needs to find a way to ride out Miami’s defensive wall if Chicago are to have any chance of
progressing into the next stage. To do this though, all his team-mates will need to pick up the slack.
The Heat guard Dwyane Wade told the reporters at the end of the practice session in Miami that it would be their utmost priority to defend the leading scorer of Chicago. Wade said, “Our only job is to make sure that when he comes
to the basket that he sees three guys if not more.” “He is going to hit some but hopefully we can continue to wear him down at the end of the games where he does not make the same ones he made earlier.”
Step 6: Stop Bosh
The Heat forward Chris Bosh has been extremely aggressive against the Bulls this series, averaging 24.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game so far. He scored a game-high in the first and third game. The 27-year-old made 13-of-18 field
goals despite missing his first few shots in the last game.
The Bulls coach Tom Thibodeau praised the sizzling performance of Bosh in the victory of Miami in game-3 and said, "Bosh was terrific right from the start of the game, very aggressive. I thought we allowed him to get his confidence
early. He's hard to close down once he gets going like that."
Chicago must handle the six times All-Star on Sunday night. Otherwise, it would not take him much time to provide his team with another superb victory.
