Question:

Six year old drastic vision change?

My child had his vision checked in January 2007 (I took him) and his vision was perfect. Then he had it checked in November 2007 (at school) and his vision was perfect. He started having problems seeing last month. My husband took him in for a test 2 weeks ago and he is nearsighted. My husband was told it was 'unusual' for someone his age to be so nearsited. I didn't think it was that bad. -1.75 and -2.00. I started wearing glasses when I was 12. My husband is 40 and has never had glasses. Has anyone else had to deal with this or have any insight? I'm a very paranoid parent and I wished I had gone to the appointment instead of sending my husband. I would have asked a zillion questions and annoyed the doctor I'm sure. :-)

  1. Well my first question is are you taking him to the same doctor you took him to before? My son was just given glasses for the first time he is 7 years old. He has had 2 tests in school and they told me he was fine then i took him in myself and he has a +5  and a +7 they told me they could only give him 1/2 his scrip at this time and that 1 in 2,000 children his age have eye sight as bad as my sons, they also told me that he has not seen right since birth and I had no idea.

  2. I would talk to his doctor... there could be an underlying medical condition/syndrome ... slowly taking away his vision... A genetic specialist would be the best doctor to take him to.
