My six year old nephew is allowed to play the video game Grand Theft Auto. His parents don't have a problem with it. I've voiced my concerns because I heard it was a really violent video game.

What do you think? Is it harmless?

  1. Don't allow it in your house. You set the rules.

His parents obviously do not know the ramifications of the child playing a violent game. They really need to look at what he is doing. It will come back to haunt them.

  2. way too young

  3. I have seen what playing adult video games can do to a child.  If you care about him and his future- do what you can (without getting mom and dad mad) to stop this.  6 yrs old is to young to understand what they are seeing.  They will think this is normal behavior and ok.  If mom and dad do not set limits or take control of what he plays or watches then he will become society's problem instead.

  4. Well yeah for a six year old that is pretty violent. CHeck out the rating.

I think the youngest should be a 10 year old playing it but even that's a bit young.

  5. i agree! to young!

there is a reason why the game has a rating!

  6. OH h**l NO!  but if he's not your kid, butt out!

  7. There's not much you can do but those are some terrible parents....

  8. I think that gameis wayyy to violent for him and he should not be playing it, if his parents dont mind it cuz they dont care how he'll end up now and in the future.my nephew is 11 and i dont even let him play it.He watches his uncle play but we ask him to leave he room on really violent parts

  9. yes that is a bit young but the best thing to do is try to teach the kids that what is on a game is not what u do in real life.  parents swear or drink around kids but that don't mean they need to do it.  now adays no matter where u turn the kids r introduced to this stuff.  its not what they see or hear its how they r taught to deal with what they see or hear.

  10. I think it's harmless in the end, but I don't think it's appropriate either.  Way not cool.

  11. I wouldnt let my 13 yr old play that. Maybe you could buy him an age appropriate game (take him to the store and let him pick) and hope he likes it better than GTA.  You have voiced your concern already and the parents dont agree.  I wouldnt bring it up again.  Its their child to raise.

  12. Or you could just mind your own business.

  13. If playing a video game bothers you, you should see how troublesome the news on tv is.  My son saw planes crash into buildings, tanks blowing up people, and flags on fire.  All on CNN, so should we not let them watch that?  The kid will be fine if his parents teach him right from wrong at that early age.  He may mimick the game, but set him straight and educate him on right and wrong.  Grown adults never exposed to video games do some pretty horrible stuff, while gamers such as myself leave the game experience at home.  I have been playing violent games forever and I have never wanted to run someone over or shoot cops.

  14. Wow.... That should not be allowed.. i believe it it rated for 17+... there is alot of violence and even strip clubs... and hookers that you can pick up...

  15. I believe it to be because I have seen others playing it.  But with the adults in our family, no one sees a problem with it besides me.  They always let my son (age 5) play it when I am not around.

I have voiced my concerns (loudly at times) about how violent the game is and that there are other games that are more age appropriate for him.....but like I said, when I am not around they let him play it.

So I set up rules with my son.  No killing, no stealing and no hitting and no running over people.  He agrees that these are bad things to do and he just wants to drive the car.

What more can I do?  Lock him away from the world?  Or teach him what is right and wrong so when he is away from me he makes good decisions (even though the adults in his life don't)?

  16. he is way to young to play GTA IV! maybe when he is like twelve or something...

  17. That is a very violent game, and he should not be playing it.....thats why the video games come with ratings...and I believe that one is rated M for Mature only....
