Six year old wets his diapers and bed when awake...?

MY six year old pees in his bed every night. We have tried everything. The doctor says he will outgrow it. So I put a diaper on him. But when I get him ready for bed and put him in the diaper he will pee in it before he falls asleep. Like if he is hanging out watching tv before going to bed. Or he will pee it in the bed before falling asleep. Also if we go on a trip in a car or a plane he will pee his pants if he falls asleep many times. So we have to have a diaper on him. But even if he does not fall asleep he will pee in the diaper instead of asking to be taken to the bathroom. If I ask him if he has to go he will say no but the diaper is still wet. When I ask him about it he says he was asleeo and it just happened.

  1. i know some grown men that do that.

  2. Relax.  The more you bug him about, the more of an issue it will become.  My daughter wet the bed until she was 8 years old.  I hated having to change sheets all the time, but she didn't do it every night, so we didn't keep her in diapers.  The doctor's won't even start testing for other problems til the kid is over 10!  My doc said that 30% of 7 year olds wet the bed, but only 3% of 14 year olds did.  That was not the news I wanted to hear.  But fortunately, she DID outgrow it . . . in HER time, not mine.

Hang in there and love your son for the great kid he is, and don't worry about the bed-wetting!  :)

  3. first of all PLEASE ignore what Michelle had said. your son does not have autism. he is most likely just being plain old lazy. There are many children like that. Have you tired putting pull ups on him the ones with the feel wet liner? or there are several other types of pants like good nites available for children with bed wetting problems. I was told by my doctor that my daughter will outgrow it as well but she is 3 so it doesn't compare to your son and I completely understand  your concern. but just be patient and try limiting his beverage intake to a couple hours before bed. and don't put the diaper on him until right before bed. maybe ( this may sound mean) but letting him sit in his wet pants for a bit he will get uncomfortable and get the picture. but he may very well not have control while he is asleep he may just be in a very deep sleep. Trust your doctor.

  4. I am a preschool teacher ..and Im just making you aware.

Children that have been violated sexually ..pee frequently and sometimes uncontrolably  as a way (in their minds) of cleansing themselves of what happened to them

  5. Hey

what i recoment is not putting him in the diaper untill right before he climbs into bed, don;t put them on him then let him do other things and make him go to the toilet right before bedtime so he won't pee in the diaper before he falls asleep.

On plane rides/car journeys take him to the bathroom often and just stand there untill he pees (in the bathroom) or if he refuses to point of breaking just take extra diapers to change him

    :) xxxxx

  6. maybe he can not control it

  7. Hmmm.. maybe he has Autism or a nervous problem? Might want to have a medical dr examine him, then again, all parents should keep asking throughout the day, "Gotta go potty" and have the kid sit on toilet for a while, regardless if they say they gotta go. Have rewards for when he goes and consequences for when he isn't trying or making effort.
