Philadelphia 76ers head coach Doug Collins is not worried about Andrew Bynum’s level of maturity.....
Andrew Bynum is undoubtedly one of the best big men currently playing in NBA and a new chapter is about to begin in his career, one with the Philadelphia 76ers, where he arrived courtesy of a blockbuster four team trade that saw
Dwight Howard make his to the tinsel town.
However, despite Bynum’s growing potential and unmatchable presence inside the painted area, there have always been concerns over his maturity. These issues had been very prominent in his time with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bynum is now expected to revive the Sixers and become the face of a franchise, which has been trying so very hard to emerge as top team in the Eastern Conference. He is tipped to be the leader of the team and although there are
many doubters to that front, owing to his immature attitude in the past, but one thing Bynum will be glad to find out is that his coach Doug Collins is a least bit bothered about that.
“I have zero concern. One thing is I never judge a man from a distance. Sometimes people want to pull out one or two things . . . but you could pull out things on all the great players in the NBA. Andrew is an incredibly well-spoken
young guy. He’s articulate, he’s bright, he’s smart and he knows the game. I think he’s happy to be home. He just got a place in the suburbs here and said he loves being here on the East Coast. I think he views this as a great opportunity to be viewed as a
central figure on a team every single night that’s going to count on him. I think he views this as a step in his career where he really has a chance to show what he’s all about. He’s got a good sense of humour. I feel really good about him.”
One more expectation from Bynum is that he will work towards being consistently available for the Sixers – something he was not able to do with the Lakers due to his constant injury troubles.
Last season however was a good change. Bynum played 63 out of the 66 regular season games and averaged double-double figures. He has now got an opportunity to create his own legacy in a franchise, which has accepted him with open
arms and is desperate to be led by one of the most dominant centre of modern age.
