Sixth Man Derrick Favors proves to be a consistent force for Utah Jazz - NBA Update
On Tuesday night Utah Jazz were the 16th and final entrant into the NBA playoffs after handing a 100-88 defeat to Phoenix Suns. Tyrone Corbin, the coach of Jazz has led his team for the 1st time into the postseason.
To accomplish the task in hand Jazz front court has played a phenomenal role.
Apart of Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap they have discovered a new force from their bench, Derrick Favors. He was a part of Deron Williams trade, Jazz acquired him from New Jersey Nets along with Devin Harris and two first round
draft picks in return of Deron.
The 20 years old towering player has mesmerized the Jazz nation with his unbelievable blocking skills; just in that match against Suns he had 5 blocks, 11 boards and 13 points. Most noteworthy these blocks were against players
like Marcin Gortat, Markieff Morris and Robin Lopez, 3 furious forwards.
He stole the show on April, 22 in the game against Orlando Magic. Favors had 16 points and 11 boards but his picturesque reverse jam in midst of traffic compelled Mark Eaton to compliment him.
Former Jazz player Mark Eaton who retired in 1993 but still holds the NBA’s single season shot blocking record lavished him with acclamation.
“I did that once, but it was only a dream,” Eaton said. “He’s still a young player trying to find his way, but he has these moments that are spectacular and give you a glimpse of somewhat untapped potential.”
At the start of this season after the trade of Deron and retirement of Coach Jerry Sloan no one could have thought that the franchise would be able to make it this far. The coach instilled confidence in the youngster and allowed
him to play along Jefferson and Millsap. Over the span of time his true talent got refined.
Al-Jefferson envisions Favors as one of the league’s best player.
“He does so many wonderful things and his confidence is getting better and better and that’s scary. He’s got a chance to be one of the best players in this league one day,”
In the regular season the troika played combined for a little over 97 minutes and they are Utah’s most feared weapon. They will be facing San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.
Derrick has finally found a permanent abode for himself as he is out of the rumour mill where uncertainty loomed large all the time. He has established himself as an essential constituent of Jazz success and they won’t let go him
as well.
“It was tough, not knowing where I was going to be. But now I’m happy. I’m in a better place where I can stay.”
