Sixth Pan-American Men’s Volleyball Cup schedule announced
Volleyball Canada has announced a change in the VI Pan-American Men’s Volleyball Tournament schedule. Now the six-day event will start on 13 June, 2011, with no change in the venue.
The Robert-Guertin Arena in Gatineau, Quebec will host the thrilling action. Earlier, the North, Central America and Caribbean Volleyball Confederation announced last month that the 2011 VI Pan-American Men’s Volleyball Cup would take place from 7 to 12
June.
The schedule for the tournament was changed so as to keep it aligned with other events, which will happen in the same week.
Talking about the upcoming events in June, Volleyball Canada’s marketing and events coordinator Ariane Thibault said, “We really want that week to be a volleyball celebration so we can get the community involved to its full potential.’’
This will be the first time in many years that Canada will host a major international volleyball tournament in Ottawa and Gatineau. The home squad is pretty much excited about hosting the event. In the last Pan-American Cup, Canada settled in the fifth slot,
while Brazil climbed the top position in ranking.
Teams from Brazil, the US and Cuba are considered as favourites. Nonetheless, the home boys are determined to profit the competitive advantage of playing at home soil. They will surely try to create a chance of celebration for the local fans.
The tournament has great significance because it will serve as first stage of the 2012 FIVB World League qualifying process. The successful teams will earn the tickets to the World League competition.
Puerto Rico, which is a United Nation’s unincorporated territory located in the northeastern Caribbean Sea, benefitted from 2010 Pan American Cup and qualified for the 2011 World League.
Currently, the Canadian athletes are dispersed around the world. They have been playing for different overseas teams. They will soon join the training camp at national team in Gatineau.
Though the dates for the event have been finalised but the information about the participants will be revealed in the weeks to come.
