Size of a snakes territory/vivarium?

I havent read anything like this on here, and Ive been looking for a while, so if something similar has been asked, then sorry. Anyway, I was just thinking, everyone who Ive talked to about snakes has said that the size of a snakes enclosure is very important. I can fully understand how a vivarium thats too small would be a problem, but, how can a snake become stressed if its enclosure is too big? I mean, when in the wild, these beautiful animals live in the open, well, not open, but they are not confined to a set 5ft x 2 ft x 2 ft space. Surely they are going to travel alot further than that in their lives. I understand that each male will have his own territory, but surely its going to be a h**l of a lot bigger than any vivarium.

Just something that crossed my mind while I was researching corn snakes on google.

Thanks in advance.

  1. I agree with Rene G and Jason H perfect answer!

  2. the baby snakes would feel very frightened in a large vivarium as they might think there is a large predator in there home.

baby's like to have a small enclosure not to small though but small enough to fell secure in the habitat.

adults on the other hand don't mind a large tank i  would prefer my adult in a large tank if it is a corn snake a tanks probably.......well this is my opinion around 5ft or 6ft long 2ft high and1-2ft deep probably as you said =) for a adult as they only grow to be around 1 meter same a the children's python and Stimson python.

    =)

  3. baby snakes can easily become overwhelmed by too much open space. they need to feel secure when they are younger. otherwise they become stressed. but adults dont really mind. my babies are housed in 20 gallon longs with lots of decor. my adults are housed in 55 gallons with a climbing branch and everything it needs.

  4. RENE G is 100 percent correct! perfect answer.

  5. I believe they refer to the smaller baby snakes. An adult snake probably won't feel too intemidated by a large enclosure. The younger snake, however will. They would be overwhelmed by the amount of space given be cause they are not sure of what awaits them in the outside(think like prey).
