Sizing Europe maintains his dominance in Tied Cottage Chase
Sizing Europe continued his spectacular form in the sport by claiming the Tied Cottage Chase at Punchestown in Ireland on Sunday, February 3, 2013. This was his fifth consecutive victory and things have been moving really nicely for him over the past several
years.
The 11-year-old gelding is an expert, when it comes to racing over fences. He has appeared in a total of 21 chase events, winning 14 times. He has never dropped out of the top three in this format and his team can be proud of this fact.
Pistolet Bleu’s son was rated as the outright favourite to succeed in his previous race and no one managed to cause problems for him. He had been given a general starting price of 1 to 8, which helped him get the maximum number of bets from the punters.
He started the race positively and did not allow others to pressurise him. Once he took a clear lead, he slowed down a bit, which might have given an opportunity to some of his rivals. However, it appeared that he was just playing games with his opponents
and increased his pace once again towards the end. He gained an overall distance of 10 lengths before crossing the finish line.
Overall, this was the 19th victory for the quality stallion. He has managed to maintain a fabulous strike rate throughout his career and will be looking to continue making his team proud in the future events.
His trainer, Henry De Bromhead, was delighted with the outcome of yesterday’s race and revealed some future plans by saying, “Regarding Cheltenham we'll be looking at what everyone else is doing. We're lucky in that we're versatile. The Gold Cup is the outsider
of the three races we'll be entering him in. We'll see how everything unfolds, a lot can happen between now and then.”
The veteran trainer added, “I've no worries about the Ryanair trip [2m5f]. He got two miles seven at Down Royal twice and his best performance this season was probably over two-and-a-half at Clonmel. It's not an issue. He's also won and been second in a
Champion Chase in the last two years and won an Arkle so there's a lot to weigh up.”
