Sizing Europe stretching his impeccable form in the Clonmel Oil Chase
Trainer, Henry De Bromhead, has meticulously laid out the plans for his ten-year-old under charge, Sizing Europe, who has been performing remarkably ever since the 2012 season shot in. His race at Gowran was specifically impressive, and has surged his chances
for the next target, Clonmel Oil Chase. His regular jockey, Andrew Lynch, was happy with the decision of the connections to cut the JNwine.com Champion Chase option at Down Royal, and stick to Clonmel.
The Jockey’s concern over the switching of races was due to the distance coupled with soft ground conditions. Guiding the Irish bay gelding through tracks at multiple occasions has given the rider a fair idea about the range in which the mount gets navigated
the best.
Three miles, that too on soft ground would have been just the recipe to exhaust the ten-year-old and return to the connections, defeated. The ground conditions remain the same even at the other option that the connections have selected, but the cut down
in the trip, which now is 2 ½ miles, will make things much more favourable for the duo once they get down on the track.
The brilliant miler is unbeaten in three out of the four seasonal outings, pinning a back-to-back on his profile when he raced last, and bidding for a hat-trick in the race that awaits him.
Pistolet Bleu’s bay gelding wrapped up the honour of winning the Grade 1 boylesports.com Champion Chase on 24th April, 2012 at Puncheston. The favourite entry had the regular jockey onboard.
The ten-year-old gelding extended his spectacular form to the Grade 2 PWC Champion Chase on 6th October, 2012 at Gowran Park.
The jockey said: "I can't wait. He seems in great form. It was a blessing in disguise he didn't go to the North (Down Royal), but two and a half miles on soft ground should be all right for him. I'd like to think my lad would take a bit of beating.
"He did it well in Gowran. It was a true-run race that day, so hopefully if everything goes to plan he should win."
The trainer added:
"I think Clonmel should be fine for him, it's a nice downhill run there. He hasn't run there before, but I think he'll like it. He schooled around there a few times. They were very helpful when we were first going chasing, so he knows the place."
