Sizing Europe to prove too strong for Tranquil Sea in Clonmel Oil Chase
With a wonderful win under his belt this season, Sizing Europe is all set to tackle the two-time champion, Tranquil Sea, in 2012 edition of the Grade 2, Clonmel Oil Chase at Clonmel on Thursday, November 15, 2012.
Tranquil Sea won the previous two editions of this race with ease. After securing a 2-length triumph in 2010, he carried forward the great work, and took the honour last year. Although victories did not come to his way regularly during the previous two seasons,
he faced no difficultly in ensuring his dominance in this event.
Again, E. J. O'Grady’s charge is expected to play a major role. The 10-year-old is returning to action after a long time. He was last seen in May, when he finished second to Casey Top. Currently owned by D. Cox & Nelius Hayes, the son of Sea Raven has an
excellent record in this race, and this will give him extra motivation.
Yet, the Edward Curtin-bred needs to perform out of his skin, because he is up against a very strong opposition. Sizing Europe is the one with the highest chances of spoiling Tranquil Sea’s party. Trained by Henry De Bromhead, the veteran is in great momentum
following a recent strike at Gowran Park.
He went on vacations after winning the Grade 1, Boylesports.com Champion Chase at Punchestown back in April. The son of Pistolet Bleu made his comeback with an equally good effort, and comfortably won the Grade 2, PWC Champion Chase at the start of last
month.
Owned by Ann & Alan Potts Partnership, the 10-year-old has been performing consistently since the outset of his career, and has bagged plenty of big wins so far. According to our calculations, he will be able to stop Tranquil Sea from completing hat-trick
in this event.
The €29,250 event has attracted five entries, but the competition revolves around only these two 10-year-olds. Magnanimity’s CV suggests that this trip is ok, but the D. T. Hughes-trained is still likely to be chalked up at big odds. Rathlin hails from a
yard firing on all cylinders, and has a squeak on that basis. Similarly, the yard’s good form is the only plus for Let Yourself Go.
