Sizing Gold beats Defy Logic in Dunsany (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race at Navan
The audience at Navan saw Sizing Gold performing outstandingly in the Dunsany (Pro/Am) INH Flat Race on Sunday, February 19, 2012.
It was a nerve-breaking clash between Defy Logic and Sizing Gold, but the luck eventually turned in favour of the latter, Henry De Bromhead’s trainee.
With 11 runners in the line-up, the 2-mile race commenced at 17:00 (GMT).
Sizing Gold kicked off the proceedings with the favourite tag. His odds were relatively higher than the rest of the pack, and the colt performed to his reputation.
In the beginning, the five-year-old was not impressive in terms of speed. However, after tracking the leaders early on, he suddenly increased his pace to attain a handsome lead.
He was striding towards a straightforward win when Defy Logic stepped forward and challenged his dominance.
Despite being troubled by Paul Nolan’s horse, Sizing Gold managed to keep an upper hand. He knocked his rival down inside the final furlong to grab a classy 1½-length success, pocketing a purse worth of £4,600.00
Defy Logic remained slightly unlucky, as despite a lot of hard work, he was unable to win the race.
Despite not being impressive in the early hours, he quickly came out of the mess and achieved a notable place in the standings.
After becoming prominent, his only aim was to surpass the winner. He pressed hard for that cause, however, his speed was not enough to complete the job.
As a result of a lacklustre show at the final moments, Defy Logic finished second in the list.
Although he was unsuccessful in overtaking the ultimate champion, he grabbed the runner-up place by a decent margin of 12 lengths.
The third position belonged to Admiral Barton, trained by Paul W Flynn. The six-year-old struggled with his speed and remained adrift by almost a couple of furlongs.
The leading pair gave him no opportunity to defy their dominance. Consequently, Admiral Barton finished third on the final result card.
After seizing second place in his debut outing last year, Sizing Gold stayed out of action for three months. He resumed his journey with a huge bang, sealing his maiden victory in style.
