Sizing Rio pointed for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle after the impressive success in the ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle
The success in the Grade 3 ‘For Auction’ Novice Hurdle has surged the odds for the four-year-old bay gelding, Sizing Rio, to 20-1 from 25-1 for the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle in March at Cheltenham. Winning the two miles contest on 11th November
at Navan has taken his career wins to three out of the four outings, and the Henry De Bromhead trained is unbeaten in the last two hurdle races.
The gelding made it pretty apparent from the very beginning of the race that he was in no mood for leaving loop holes for rest of the contenders to fill in, and the home turn saw him dictating the terms of the race which included that if anyone wanted to
over haul him, then they would need to first fill in the wide gap that the Jimmy Finn bred had already cultivated.
E. Lynch’s lead over the rest of the competitors was intruded by the ride of the one of the most capable jockeys, Ruby Walsh, Ted Veale. They came into the frame when the final two flights from the ten hurdles remained.
The determination of the favourite couple had the intruding rivals set apart by 1 ½ lengths as they went across the wire.
Coming at terms with the third position was, Celtic Cailin.
Heron Island’s gelding had bagged the prize money of the Dine In The Bobbyjo Bistro Maiden Hurdle on 23rd October, 2012 at Fairyhouse over two miles. Sizing Rio was paired up with jockey, P. Carberry, and the two defeated the favourite candidate,
Cops And Robbers, by good eighteen lengths.
The triumphant trainer commented:
De Bromhead said: "That was good and I'm delighted with it. Andrew said that he was a bit hard to get around the bends in front. He is real galloping horse and the faster they go, the better he is. He is a big, raw four-year-old and he is a real horse for
the future and fences."
"We will give him a break now and probably bring him back for Leopardstown at Christmas. Hopefully there won't be a problem with him going left-handed there. He is not entered in the Royal Bond and I think he will be better on better ground."
The connections’ plans for the under charge have been cut clear, and if he takes the back-to-back to a hat-trick or not will come out in the open soon.
