  1. Yes, there are. However they are not least bit interested in you, so go surfing and have fun.

Sharks, contrary to popular belief, are not mindless predators, and most attacks on humans are a result of sharks mistaking us for one of their favorite food sources, seals.

There are some naturally aggressive sharks, like the bull shark, but they are rare in New Jersey waters, although they dominate littoral waters of the Atlantic coast from the Carolina's to Florida. They account for most US east coast shark attacks.

I have been swimming, surfing and diving in south jersey for over forty years, and only had two close encounters. One, while scuba diving, scared my buddy and I back in the boat. The other, while surfing, was no big deal. I used to surf all day at Avalon pier, and then go with buddy shark fishing on that same pier at night. There are millions of sharks in the ocean (thank goodness, they are important to the ecosystem). You don't see the jersey beaches littered with body parts from partially eaten surfers, do you?

You have a far better chance of getting run over by a car while crossing Asbury Avenue than you do of even seeing a shark. Stop worrying, have fun. They haven't eaten me yet. (However, i practice professional courtesy, I don't eat sharks!)

  2. Is the water salty?  Yeah?  Then there are sharks.

  3. sharks everywhere my friend

    don't live in fear

surfing will definetly take that fear awayy

    good luckkk!

  4. h**l yeah if your scared of sharks dont go this time of the year go past june in july if your afraid of sharks the thresher sharks are in now im going fishing for them tomorow and its ok the threshers wont touch you but there are those sand tiger sharks theyre scary with there teeth hanging out but they only eat mackerel and bunker so ull be fine go surfing the last NJ shark attack was in 2006 with a great white and the surfer got attacked in about 4 feet of water lol about 20 ft. from the shore so yeah go surfing youll be fine sharks only kill 6 people a year and 3/4 of them happen off the gulf of mexico so kik back and relax and dont watch jaws after all that was based on a Nj shark attack in 1916 5 people were killed

  5. i dont think so

  6. dont worry about sharks. cuz if you do youll just be scarred to go in the water

  7. I think there has been only one fatal shark attack in NJ - or, one shark that killed 3 or 4 people.  It was around 1900-1920 so its been safe for a long time.  More people die drowning in swimming pools than are attacked by sharks each year and the vast majority of shark attacks are not fatal.
