Skate Blade?

Ok, so I live in New Zealand and am a ice skater.

I got my own boots in may for my birthday.

They are Graf Villars.

The thing is, the blade dosent have the grove in the middle like all the websites say they do have, the hire figure skate boots don't either.

Will this effect my skating?

  1. Go get the skates sharpened.... go to a sporting goods store, they do it.  then you can skate.

  2. Im a skater in NZ too!!!

It sounds like theyre blunt.. did u try getting them sharpened? If that doesn't help then ask someone at the pro shop, they might be able to help. =]

  3. They are very very extremely dull, and need to be sharped.

  4. ive always bought graf  ice skates and usually they only come with a factory grind on them which is basically nothing . take them to your nearest ice blade shapener  or hard ware store they may do it and have them ground before you use them .. or you might end up on the floor quicker than you think .

  5. I have always had Coronation Ace blades and mine always had a groove in them. I'm not for sure if it would affect your skating. It might affect your edges and stuff, but I'm not sure.

  6. awesome another kiwi skater =)

if there isnt a groove hollow in the blade then it probably hasnt been sharpened. without being sharpened the blade will be verrry blunt, which will make it almost impossible to hold edges. definitely get them sharpened at the local rink. you will notice quite a change in how you skate if you have been using blunt skates (sadly most rentals have almost no edges =P ) and it may be difficult to stop since the edges will be so sharp, but they will setting down after a little while.

    happy skating =)
