  1. A half pipe is a "half of a pipe" usually made out of wood anwhere from 2 and a half ft tall to 30ft tall. And you pump to keep going, if you didnt pump you would just slow down and wouldnt make it too the lip of the pipe.

  2. Pumping makes you go faster

a half pipe is a large ramp

  3. A half pipe is a type of ramp.  Originally, half pipes were just that, half of a pipe.  In the 1980s a flat section was added between the quarter pipes.  At the top of the ramp is round metal coping, although PVC is sometimes used in home ramps.  There is a deck at each end of the ramp as well.

Small half pipes, less than 6 ft tall, are known as mini ramps.

A vert ramp is a type of half pipe that is taller than 10ft and has a section of vertical wall below the coping and above the transition.  The vert section is usually 6 to 36".

Pumping is done to increase speed or maintain speed.  If you were not to pump gravity and the friction of the wheels, bearings and trucks will eventually slow you down.

  4. a half pipe is literally the bottom half of a pipe and a skater pumps because it creates momentum and cause him/her to go higher and faster on ramps to get more air.
