  1. Get a board form a local skate shop, or shop at the skatepark.  Why?  Discount or toy store boards are very poor quality.  They usually break after a short time using them.  These boards don;t have the same feel as the better quality ones.

Another reason you should not buy the discount store board is it can be embarrassing for you to ride one.  They are easy to spot by experienced skaters because they make sounds different than that of the better ones.  You aren't six anymore.

Finally, you are supporting the local skate scene if you get a board at a local shop.  These are the people you will be skating with at the park or a favorite skate spot.  They can also help you get the right equipment for the type and location of skating you will be doing.  Most likely, the gray-haired check out lady is not a skater.

Expect to pay around $100 for a complete suing a blank or shop deck and blank wheels.  Pro-models will be about $30-50 more, depending on selections.

If money is an issue, ask your friends if they want to sell or give you some parts that they aren't using anymore.  Lots of skaters get parts and find out that they don't line them after a few runs. You cam also ask at the local shop to see if they have any used or promo stuff they want to sell.

  2. Wal-mart boards will get you nowhere. They have bad pop, horrible bearings and the quality is terrible . They snap really easily. I would suggest buying a board either from your skate park or from a sports store like olympia or d**k's.

  3. Skate park or a special shop for boards. Why? The WalMart/Target/K-mart have bad bearings so you ride for 0.5 seconds then stop even with the hardest push. The boards at a proper store will have proper boards and proper bearings. It'll cost you about $20+ more but it's really worth it!

    Hope I helped!
