At my school there are a c**p load of wannabe skaters. They look sooooo cool, but they are huge posers!!!

I can skate but I don't really wear that much skater clothes.

Everytime I tell people I skate they don't believe me!:(

Should I start dressing like a skater, or stay a prep?

Thx guys!

  1. you should stick it too them but not skater wear maby a pear of micros shorts and a DC shirt something like that and show off your moves every once and a while

  2. What makes you think dressing like a skater will change the minds of these unbelievers that you're a skater?  If you switch your clothing style, these same people may think that you're apart of this wannabe skater crowd.  Not cool, right?

You know you can skate, and the people that really matter know you can skate.  You have nothing to prove to those who don't believe you.

If it really bugs you, you'll have to find an opportunity where they can watch you skate - THEN they'll have to believe you.  When I was a teen, my so-called friends in school invited me to this hip college club dance sort of as a joke thinking I was a goodie-goodie and didn't know how to dance.  I shocked them ALL and word got out the next day at school.  It shut them up.

On that note, don't be too quick to judge all of these "huge posers" . . . there might be a real skater in that crowd, unless you really know for sure.  Don't judge them all just because of the way they are dressed, just as you don't want people to judge you.

    Lecture over.  Good luck!

  3. Do what you feel like.

I would suggest creating your own, unique style. Combine clothes, I do that all the time and It works great.

Clothing is not a way to show everyone what you do. If you were a swimmer, would you go to school in a swimming suit? I don't think so.

To be honest, many people think that I can't skate even when I go skateboarding, street. I just wear normal Champion shorts and a plain, no-brand T-Shirt. I don't care what others say or think. I can do my shoveits, kickflips, heelflips and most of the "skaters" can't even do an ollie.

However, when I go to a skatepark, there are many, many better skaters that me. Of course, all of them ride in cool clothes. They can skate much better than me. The thing is, I always wear a great, though not expensive Bucky Lasek's signature helmet with cool stickers on it and I have elbow and knee pads. Everybody in the skatepark thinks that some stupid rich poser just came to the park and that protection is lame and for posers. They don't see that their New Era hat costs more than than all my gear but anyway I hear them laughing at me whenever I try to learn riding fakie in a mini-ramp. It can be so embarrassing but I s***w it because when I fall it will not be me who will hurt himself and it will not be me who will ruin his super cool and expensive clothes.

    Why was I writing that?

    1. not everybody who doesn't look skater-cool (no protection, skater clothes) can't skate

2.s***w what others think and do what you feel like

I personally wear skateboard clothes pretty often and skateboard shoes all the time. Not to show others that I skate, just because those shoes are good for skating plus they're comfortable and I like their look.  I wear them every day: the beefy ones and the oldschool ones, no matter what.

I just love the look of skateboard clothes that's why I wear them. I often wear skinny skater pants because I like their look. I have some skateboard T-shirts and hoodies because I think they look cool, too. I just feel comfortable wearing my clothes, that's not because I wanna tell everybody 'attention everyone, I'm a skater!!!!' That's what you should do, if you think that skateboard clothes are cool, wear them! If you don't like their look/you're not gonna feel comfortable wearing them, don't buy them!

    HOWEVER

That all doesn't mean I only dress like a skater. I combine my, for instance:

    1. skateboard skinny pants with a polo

    2. skateboard t-shirt with non-skateboard pants

Skateboard shoes always give me the casual look and I like it that way. I don't care what others think.

That's why I think you might wanna buy some skater clothes and not throw away the old ones.

    Try this site:

www.backcountryoutlet.com - that's not only a skater site, but it's my favorite. It just rules. They have all the cool brands at great prices, up to 70% off and free shipping for orders over 50$.

www.dogfunk.com is a skateboard site "cooperating" with backcountry, check it out, too. It's great

These are some clothes you might want to check out, which will give you the skater look (just my preference, I like Volcom and Vans, I hate Quiksilver and DC some people love them, just personal preference):
