  1. well i skated before i was boarding

i pretty much rode around on my driveway trying to get used to it and learned how to control the board, just like

    snowboarding

it just comes after practicing a bit

skateboarding is whole lot difficult compared to boarding if you get all technical

the board doesn't stick to your feet, its smaller, its a whole lot cheaper than a good complete snowboard, the board can't ride over (fairly large) rocks or rubble (unless you got big soft wheels) without eating sh*t, and your setup usually wears down pretty quick (depending on your abilities) so you always gotta get new parts.

and to turn you lift the board and pivot instead of sliding the board with ur legs

also when you bail theres no more soft forgiving snow or not so hard ice and instead there's asphalt, cement, or masonite (wood).

you should never get flip boards

they suck because they wear out so quick, the ends start to splint, and if u care about graphics they don't last a bit.

i ride Krooked and i personally love their boards because they've got a good shape, last long, and have crazy/unique graphics by Mark Gonzalez aka the Gonz.

but you always can't find Krooked at skateshops because they produce limited quantities, which i love.

    but activerideshop.com has them

but if you don't like Krooked try Almost because they're pretty good with their skate technology infused decks like the uberlight and impact series.

other good stuff you should go for are independent trucks, shorty's hardware, spitfire wheels, and bones bearings

if your not sure about the deck width i recommend you get a 7.5-7.6 board if you've got small feet and/or want to do street like stuff or get a 7.75-7.8 if you're interested in transition more than doing technical flip variations

people say if you're a really good skater your a really good boarder so it probably works the other way around

  2. 1) I started skateboarding when I was 12 years old.  One time, I was at a playground near my house and I couldn't get a ride home.  My parents told me to take my bike so I could ride home, but I didn't really want to.  I decided to take out my old wal-mart board to ride that home.  It turned out that one of my best friends had his board at the park as well, so we started skating around, trying to do ollies and turning.  I saved my money, and bought a Birdhouse, which was just so much fun to ride, I never wanted to stop.

2&3) For a snowboarder, forget what you learned while you're on a skateboard.  Riding a snowboard is a lot different, it flows, and you can't really turn by leaning or kickturning.

Snowboard is a slo a bit more.... slippery.  You don't slide on concrete like you do on snow.  Snowboarding is slides like your wheels would if you put wax on them.

    3) Flip is an average deck company.  I wouldn't recommend them, but it won't matter much to a beginner.  Some better companies are Real, Toy Machine, Krooked, Foundation, Zoo York, and Alien Workshop.

STAY AWAY from Element, Plan B, Blind, Darkstar, and Speed Demons.  The wood they use is weak and the glue isn't as strong as many other companies.

good luck, and have fun.  Skateboarding is amazing.

  3. Snowboarding is my favorite!

i also skate. if i were to recommend you to a "Starter" Skateboard i would choose World Industries. Or PIG.

They are the two Starter decks.

Skateboarding is WAY harder than snowboarding, Concrete is Verryyy unforgiving trust me. haha.

Skateboarding is a very fun sport. But if your looking for a thrill like snowboarding.. i would say there is none. Snowboarding is the top of the line in my eyes, Haha Next would have to be BMX.

Well i hope i could help at least a little. -Jon

  4. my first board was a flip

or you can go with an element

    both are good beginning boards

    try learning to ollie first
