Well I am going to take ice skating lessons this summer and I was wondering if I should buy ice skates now or wait and which brand and model. And how often many hours a week do I need to be on the ice?

  1. I suggest getting Riedels, they were my first pair and they work very well for beginners. The Bronze somethings or Blue Ribbons or something i forget.

I use custom fit harlicks now but you wont have to worry about that for a while. Just get some stock boots around 200.

Please don't use rental skates, people don't realize how horribly beat up and bad they actually are until they've gotten their own pair.

  2. Do you know anyone that skates?  Try to borrow theirs.  Rental skates can be discouraging.  You may not be able to skate at all in rental skates and you may think you're bad at skating.  Try to see where people are selling used skates, and just get a good, old pair.  Rental skates can be worn down around the ankles and will not help with ankle support.  Also, rental skates aren't sharpened well enough or at all.  It's a struggle to skate in them.  A girl on my team forgot her skates and had to do the whole practice in rentals.  She said it was the most terrifying day of her life.

  3. i think you should wait because skates are very expensive when its time to buy skates ask your instructor and if you want to be competitive you should skate around 6 hours a week

  4. later. u should see if ur really gonna stick to the sport and skates are not cheap. i recommend jackson particularly the jacson artiste for beginners. it doesnt matter how many hours a week ur on the ice, i spend about 5 1/2 - 14hrs a week on the ice.i know ppl who spend alot more time and some ppl who skate only 30 mins or an hour a week.
