Question:

Skating Warm-up's question...?

When I was doing group lessons we used to stretch beofre going onto the ice and when we would get onto the ice I would feel quiet relaxed.

Now that I have stopped lessons and just going skating for public sessions I dont stretch cuz its seems dumb ( apperance to others) and I seem to be stiff.

Is the stretching worth while or is it because I dont go on the ice as often?

  1. it is definitely worth it.

  2. if you are skating for fun and not doing to much on the public session you should be ok to avoid it but maybe do some stretches at home or when you get off the ice.

if you want to go back doing fiqure skating i advise you always warm up and down i am a good example of lazy stretching i had to end my career skating because i damaged my achillie's tendon due to not proper cool down and my muscle got rather stressed.

i advise to try and stretch warm up and cool down asmuch as you can and that goes to all skaters out there.

  3. Stretching is deffinately worth wile and has nothing to do with how often you skate. I recently started stretching again before I skate and I've noticed an amazing improvement. You don't have to stretch at the public session itself. Try stretching at home before you leave to skate. It should have the same effect.

You should also stretch after you skate. I'm not completely sure why, but my coach makes me do it all the time. It's not going to be as extensive as it was before you skated, but just enough to stretch your legs out.

  4. stretch befor you leave your house to skate.

  5. streching is definately worth while. When i use to go out on the ice, i always streched first. The one time i didn't i felt stiff, fell and hurt my rist so much that i had to stop. I quit. But always stretch first

  6. stretching does help the stiffness and makes a difference. it loosens up your muscles.  it could be a combo though. if you don't want to stretch off ice, do it on ice using the wall.

  7. If you will be working on more advanced moves then it's a good idea. If not then just mildly stretch because it's good to stretch at least for 5 minutes before using the muscles. I also stretch after because I've been moving around and my body's warmed up.

Every person should stretch anyway, if you can't touch your toes then at least stretch after. Have fun skating!!!

  8. I only stretch a little before I go on to the ice, but it helps A LOT. You should stretch because it'll warm up your muscles, and you'll be less likely to injure yourself. If you don't want to look stupid stretching, go stretch in a locker room, or stretch at home before you come to the rink. Hope that helps. :)

  9. the stretching is worth while. but i still dont do it.

haha.. it warms up your muscles so that when you get on the ice your muscles dont freeze up. if you are planning on getting better at skating and improving you should stretch.

i dont stretch because even though i want to get better i dont take skating very seriously and i just go to have fun.
