How do you skate backwards? I know you have to curve your feet in and out, but are there any tricks you have or personal experiences that helped you learn this? I'm having difficulty learning it and really need help!

Thanks!

  1. it depends if u wanna learn crossovers or swizzles or wiggles

on wikipedia it might say it but check the eyewittness book called

    the young ice skater

it gives u a ton of good details on alot

  2. it will probly take u a while. Can u do a slolem? if u can do it backwards and if u have a coach see if they can help u.

  3. Well swizzle, kinda like a half circle push out in a curved motion then bring it back over your other foot, it that makes any sense. Just remember to bend your knees and go slow. You can take breaks between crossovers.  try to make it a smooth motion, most teachers teach you to pick up your foot then cross it over, but that doesn't help it just makes it harder to learn them the right way. I hope you get them.

p.s remember to practice both directions or else on side will be really good and the other will be really bad.

    -GOOD LUCK-

  4. well u do a half swizzle

u start facing backwards and take ur right foot and make a half circle with it then cross it over to your left fot and keep on doing that

heres a site on how to do it but pick me for best answer please:)

This site shows you videos on how to do every trick on ice skates. i use it and it heps a bunch!!!!

remember to look back into the center of the ice

  5. It can be difficult at first, until you find the rhythm and know how to use your leg muscles to control it.  When I first learnt these, I used to do two, and then grind to a halt!

If you are doing straightforward backward swizzles, then use your knees more.   As your feet glide apart, bend right down into your knees, and then as your feet come back together, come up in your knees (although not so they are ramrod straight!), so when you are doing them consecutively you get a nice smooth down-up-down action.

Another tip for backward swizzles is to try and blend the movements together.  Most beginners will bring their feet right back together, and then try and turn their heels out again for the next swizzle.  Instead, as you pull your feet back together, start turning your heels out / toes in as they are still gliding, so your feet can glide straight out again, and it becomes more fluid.

Lastly, don't let your legs glide too far apart - otherwise it can take too much muscle strength to try and pull them together again.

  6. Try to picture yourself skating forward, and repeat that motion backwards.  Basically, start with your feet close to your center, and push one outwards, and follow with the next.  it's also a lot easier if you bend lower to keep your balance.  good luck!

  7. SHAKE YO BOOTY SIDE TO SIDE, I AINT EVEN PLAYIN. AND YOU NEEDA KNOW IZ ALL INDA ANKLES. LOLZZ
