Question:

Skeptics of "An Inconvenient Truth"?

I want to make it clear that I am not skeptical about global warming in the slightest, I'm a bit of a centrist erring on the side of liberal, and I certainly agree with the idea that global warming awareness is important.

That being said, did anyone think Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" tended to stretch statistics in his favor, or misuse some scientific information? I found myself a little skeptical of some of the claims the movie made.

  1. yea that movie was a definate stretch on a lot of details...

i agree with you about awareness...but these days all the global warming advocates seem to be turning into doomsday cults...

just state the facts and let people choose to believe what they want...stop trying to scare everyone...

  2. I would say you understated the degree of hyperbole and fear mongering in Al Gore's movie.  Of course, he is a well known serial exagerator so it should come as no surprise that his approach to global warming would be overstated.

In my opinion, he presented worst case scenarios as confirmed predictions and interjected a sense of urgency (it's all going to happen very fast) that simply is not supported by the science.
