Question:

Ski Resort??

Hiya, i'm 33 and pretty bored in my current job. I'm thinking of going somewhere for a ski season next year, but didn't know where to go. Any suggestions?

I'm also afraid that I may be a little to old to mingle with the younger crowd if I want. Would this be the case or doesn't it really matter over there?

Answers to these questions would be greatly appraciated.

  1. Steamboat Springs, CO. My parents live there and LOVE it!! They are in their late 50's. Steamboat has a huge diversity of people of all ages. It is a great place.

  2. My first full time gig at a ski area was when I was 32. It was in the Poconos. Age doesn't matter...after all, how old would you be if you didn't know how old you were?

I work with people of all ages. Most of them are cool no matter what age they are. Our Ski Patrol party is in two weeks and there are people from 16-80 going to be there. You'll find out who the people are that you want to mingle with very quickly. It's pretty much the same at every resort. I work at a small place so the lifties are just as prone to hang out with the instructors and ski patrol. At larger places, you may get more "departmentalized" in your associations. The clique I ran with this season was as follows:

    Me: A 33 year old liftie/snowmaker/patroller

A 20 year old female patroller

A 25 year old female liftie

A 26 year old male liftie

A 25 year old male instructor

A 26 year old female instructor

A 24 year old male patroller

A 21 year old male liftie

and occasional appearances by some assorted

16-19 year old instructors and patrollers.

Last year I was hanging out mostly with late-20 somethings and early 30-somethings. Considering how small my resort is, I think finding the right folks to hang with at a large resort should be easy as well.

    Have Fun!
