Question:

Ski boot help?

I'm going skiing/snowboarding for the first time this weekend and I need boots. Sorry for the dumb question but...can I purchase any kind of snow boot, or do I have to purchase one that is specifically designed for skis/snowboards? My issue here is this is my first time, and I probably won't be going again any time soon, so I'm really just looking for something cheap to get me through the day. Thanks!

  1. Rent your equipment at the resort. It's quite common for a beginner to rent all of their gear.

Your boots must fit TIGHT around your foot and ankle.  Then you can decide what you want to do.  Wear a waterproof boot with a good tread between your vehicle and the rental shop, also take a set of lessons from a qualified professional instructor. Both sports are fun but you do need to learn how to do it correctly. Allow several hours to learn.  You didn't learn to ride a bicycle in just a few minutes, so take your time and listen to the instructor.

  2. I would suggest renting boots from the mountain you go to.  New boots run from 100 to 500 dollars.  If you're not a regular skier or snowboarder, it's not worth it to buy the gear.  Most mountains have a good rental rate and will help you get the right size.  Enjoy the time on the slopes!

  3. They will rent you the boots w/ your skis.  Unless you purchased a used pair of skis w/o boots.  The boots are special, basicaly removable "casts."  Keeps you from snapping your ankles like twigs.  ;)

  4. Hi I am a ski racer. You don't have to have a certain type of boot for your ski just pick a boot that you feel is conferable and then you will be all set. If you are just skiing for a little while you should rent boots. If you are going boarding sorry I really don't know anything about snowboard boots. But I hope this info helps you.

  5. if your going skiing.. you need a SKI boot. if your going snowboarding you need SNOWBOARDING boots. i dont kno if you can buy them at a really cheap price unless you get used ones or you could just rent a pair out for the day. that would probably be the best way.
