  1. In addition to your current program, add 15 minutes a day of jump rope, this will give you balance and coordination to your feet.  Balance is the key to good skiing, flexible hip femur joint also helps.

  2. Definitely also work the arms and core.  You do use your leg muscles a lot.  Your calves and inner thighs will help you snowplow to stop as you learn. Just as important-arm strength! When you're on flat ground getting back to the chair lift, you are using your arms to help move yourself along.  (That was my biggest weakspot the first time I went skiing!)

  3. You are absolutley right. By favorite thigh-burning exercise is endurance squatting. You take two dumbells(whatever weight suits you) and do squats with them at your sides. Do 50-100 of these a day, and by February 6th, you'll beat your friends down the hill.

    Hope this helps.

  4. If a fat man like me can do it so can you :)...lol... best thing to do is stretch, Squat, squat, and squat. It is the best exercise, period, but esp. for legs. Just be sure you do them correctly, lest you end up with injuries. Keep your knees aligned with your toes and behind your toes, keep your heels on the floor, and keep your back flat and head up. Start out with no weight -- just bodyweight. Eventually, either put a barbell on your back or hold dumbbells in each hand. Build up strength by adding progressive poundages in SMALL increments.

  5. Go biking, do squats, and other leg excersies, especailly for the quad muscles.  you should also do lots of core excerses(crunches, situps,..), very important for skiing.  also work your arms, the more fit you are, the less likely you are to injured.
