Question:

Skiing etiquette?

I'm a beginner skier and went on a bigger quad chair lift today. Cos I lined up by myself, I tried to pace myself out so that I could end up sharing the chairlift w/these 2 girls I didn't know. As I stood next to them I asked if I could share the chairlift w/them. I am a girl as well. They said no, could I try to find someone else to share with.

Question:

If I am single waiting to get on a chairlift. Should I ask others first or just get on with them w/o asking them? What is the etiquette.

  1. Just get on you all paid the same amount.

  2. unless the chair would be full then do it

  3. I usually go without asking because I go in the singles line and am assigned to a chair.

  4. I wouldn't ask. It is rude not to get on if there is a queue behind you. There is no harm in asking but it is not expected of you.

    These girls sound dam rude.

  5. The way you asked is how it should be done.  I always ask and usually there is no problem.  I would just keep asking.  When people ride the lift together it makes the lift line go much faster, as you already know.

  6. I always ask, but have never been refused.  Your etiquette was fine, unlike the two girls.  Not only were they rude to you but, because you would have to ride single (wasting 3 seats) and because they would have wasted 2 seats, they were discourteous to everyone else waiting in the line.
