  1. Just remember that every single person on the hill was a beginner once.  They worked it out, so can you.

Lessons are vital for beginners.  Take some.

  2. it is kinda like ice skating. so it is easy!

  3. well i find skiing is a lot like skating... you have to do weight transfers from one leg to the other as you go down the hill making "s".. and breaking is like skating too.. so if you know how to skate you should be fine.. i've skated all my life in competitive hockey and 3rd time i went skiing i was doing expert level tracks

  4. Be smart, take a lesson.  As the saying goes, "friends don't let friends teach friends to ski".

The first lesson will teach you how to use the "snow plow".  This is where your feet are turned in so that the skis will look like a "V" from front to back.

Using the snowplow, if you apply pressure equally with your two legs, you will stop.  If you apply more pressure on your right leg, you will turn left and vice versa.

Good luck and don't break a leg.

  5. take a lesson from the ski instructor. they will teach you to stop and steer and fall

  6. Hey, I live in VT and have been skiing for 10 year. What you need to remember is to get skis that are as close to your chin as possible. This allows for more control. Make sure your ski boots fit snugly and there is no room in the toe. Start off easy by going down small hills and then once you feel confortable, try the bunny slope, sometimes the lift operators will slow down the chair lift if you tell them that it is your first time. Then work your way up. Just be sure take it easy, don't go into the terrain park, wear a helmet, I can't stress that enough, and have fun.

  7. I started when I was about 11 and I got it right away.  All you have to remeber is that you should never cross your skis and relax.  Skiing is one of the funnest things in the world.

  8. The best way to learn to ski is to take a series of lessons from a qualified professional instructor, when you rent your equipment, be sure that your boots fit properly and are TIGHT around your foot and ankle. The buckle should close with a sharp click, not a thud or be so hard to close that you can not do it. Only your foot and your sock should be in your boot. Your foot should not move in the boot, just wiggle your toes.  Try to take your first lesson early in the morning, be at the rental shop as early as possible and get help fitting the boots.  Take a piece of candle wax and rub it on your skiis, a little bit on your boot will help keep the snow off the soles.

Skiing is easy, but it takes some time to learn.  Remember how long it took to learn to ride a bicycle or a skateboard?  A typical learning curve for skiers is about 4 hour before you can ride a beginners chair lift, about 12 hours and you are comfortable riding the chair and skiing the slope and enjoying it.  Make new friends and enjoy your self.  Do not go to advanced slope until you are sure you are ready to do so. If in doubt walk out around it on your skiis.

  9. Be sure to ask for parabolic skis that are shorter than your chin.  You'll find these easier to steer.  Also, first time ski trip, at least the first few hours, isn't much fun.  Keep up the hard work and it will become fun.  I promise.

  10. pizza form, start slow, you will fall! After the first couple times triy pushing side to side to go faster. If you want to stop turn to the side

  11. i know it can be hard the first time. just breathe and relax. and bend your knees! if you wanna stop or slow down, just turn your feet inwards like the shape of a pizza (fool proof)

    good luck.
