  1. You'll also want ski gloves and a hat.  And you'll want long, comfortable socks (tube socks or something like them).  But otherwise it sounds like you've got the clothes covered.

Several folks have already said worthwhile things about ski technique.  The trouble with your question is that this is something that you mostly learn by feel.  We can talk all night, but it won't make sense until you start doing it.

As you are learning, you will probably fall down.  As a beginner, you won't be going very fast, and your instructor will teach you how to fall down without getting hurt.  And the other beginners will be falling down, too.  So it will be okay.

The next thing that your instructor will probably teach you is how to slow down and stop.  You will prove to yourself that you can do that, and you will become less nervous.

Sounds like you're going to have a great trip.  Have fun!

  2. I have been skiing since I was 3 and I'm 14 now.

keep your skies in a pie shape while your skiing so that you will slow down(in the shape of a pizza slice)

don't go on any slopes except the beginner

    take a lesson

when you fall you push yourself up with your ski poles, don't push your hands behind you because you'll slide, and never get up on a hill(you'll fall)

ski with ski poles they give you balance and can increase or decrease your speed

    always ski with a buddy

bend your knees when you ski

and lean to the side when you need balance and to turn

    what to wear:

    snow pants

    sweatshirt

    jacket

    hat or ear muff

    snow boots to the resort

gator(hat/scarve thing this is a preferance though)

    scarf(if it's cold)

gloves(the thick ski ones not the thin fuzzy ones)

    thermals

    shirt(preferably long sleeves)

    pants(under the snow pants)

*ask for paraballic skies they are easier to use*

  3. gear sounds good dont forget gloves and a scarf to cover your face.  skiing is intimidating to all newbies. your instuctor will show you how to take it slow once you learn how to stop by yourself( which isnt hard just takes practice)the mountain is yours. remember snow is soft:)also cut back _up _the mountain when turning  from one  side of the trail  to the other  (this will slow u down ) good way to learn  most of all have fun

  4. Your list is nearly complete, add 2 pair of warm ski socks per day, and ski mittens, warmer than gloves.  Also take some canning wax, rub a little on the soles of your boots so the snow won't stick, and a lot on the base of the skiis.  Listen to your instructor and practice what you are shown.  Your ski boots must be TIGHT around your foot and ankle, no movement at all, except to wiggle your toes.  Only one pair of socks and your foot should go in to the boot, no jeans cuffs or LJ's.  Have the shop personnel help you with the boots if they are  at all loose, the boots can be adjusted for a tighter fit.  One item you need is head protection, rent a helmet along with the skiis and boots, the first day you don't need the ski poles.  Also take a warm hat and sun screen SPF 45+, and sunglasses and goggles.  Also money, and lunches, resorts can be expensive.  Drink water, to stay hydrated, and ice your muscles after wards,  I use snow in zip lock bags for 20 minutes, really helps with the leg cramps.

I teach 5 days a week, and have taught for 40+ years. It's a great sport, make new friends and enjoy the old ones.

  5. you got the perfect clothes. so no need to worry about that.

although you might want to bring, sunscreen, and put a tissue in your coat pocket. beleieve my, your nose WILL run! also, get used to falling because if your a beginner you will fall a lot! but it doesnt hurt. plus the snow will be comforting same with all of the layers you will be wearing.

    how to skii.

bend your knees, and when you turn edge your skiis. any idea what that means? if you do, good job, if you dont, no sweat. edging your skiis means that you will simply move your skiis to the left a little and you will bend right, and that is edging. www.youtube.com type in how to skii. they have 12 videos on each step.

i hope this will help. have fun and dont worry about being nervous, you'll have a blast.

  6. Your instructor will tell you the technique, just remember that when you want to slow down, you make a V with your skis so that the fronts are aiming towards eachother with the pressure on the inside part of your foot.  It will come naturally after a few practice runs.

As far as gear goes, make sure your jacket and gloves are waterproof, and it might be a good idea to have waterproof ski pants on as well (snow pants.)  Also, bring and extra pair of gloves and an extra hat... if they happen to get wet it can make it a long day so i like to have back ups.
